Official Opening Ceremony

On July 7, 2004 at 8:45AM, the opening of the Altona Forest Trails occurred. Representatives were on hand from TRCA, Altona Forest Stewardship Committee, Pickering Naturalists, City of Pickering, TD Friends of the Environment as well as a number of the public. It was a very nice ceremony (and we didn't get rained on!). In addition to the new kiosk and sign, 37 interpretative posts are now in place and 30 metres of board walk (remember you can download the trail map here).

These new items were funded by the generous support of TD Canada Trust Friends of the Environment via a grant that we applied for in April of 2003. We thank them again for their support!

Mayor David Ryan (third from the left) of the City of Pickering was gracious enough to attend the opening (thank you David for your time). Also on hand was Andy Wachon (fifth from the left). Andy was in attendance representing the TD Canada Trust Friends of the Environment (thank you also to Andy for attending).

Here we are speaking during the ceremony.

Here we are cutting the ribbon to officially open the trail system (with all those new trail markers now installed).

Here is a clear shot of the new kiosk and signage.

If you haven't gone on a hike lately in the forest please consider it and see all these additions as well as an increased pond size due to the small berm that was installed.
