Thank You TD Canada Trust (Post Date : December 12, 2003)

We would like to acknowledge the financial support of the TD Canada Trust Friends of the Environment. Their support will allow the placement of interpretative signs and posts and make improvements to the trails within Altona Forest.

Chair of Altona Forest Committee Wins Award (Post Date : December 1, 2003)

On June 18th, 2003, Larry Noonan (Chair on the Altona Forest Stewardship Committee) was presented with the "Dr. J. Murray Speirs Restoration Award". This award is given to a person who has been involved for some time in the maintenance, protection and preservation of the natural environment. It was presented at a council meeting of the Durham Region by the Region Municipality of Durham and the Durham Environmental Advisory Committee. Congratulations to Larry.

Nature Walk (Post Date : October 26 , 2003)

For those in the area there is a guided nature walk on November 30th at 130PM. Meet at Amos Pond at Old Finch Avenue and Pickering Townline on east side north of Old Finch Avenue.

Aerial Photogragh (Post Date : August 24, 2003)

A very high resolution black and white aerial photograph has been placed in the Location section. The image is very large and will not all be viewable on your screen at one time - scrolling will be necessary. This image was taken in mid-2000 but provides an excellent detailed view of the area.

Rouge Valley Walk (Post Date : July 31, 2003)

For those in the area there is a guided nature walk of the Rouge Valley on August 31st at 130PM. Meet at Rouge Marsh, at the east end of the parking lot, east of Port Union Road on Lawrence.

For those in the area there is a guided nature walk of the Rouge Valley on July 27th at 130PM. Meet at Hillside School at Old Finch Avenue and Meadowvale Road.

Web Site Updates (Post Date : July 4, 2003)

A new section has been added called Supporting Members.

Nine photographs of the Buckthorn have been added to the site to help people positively identify this invasive plant. See the Invasive Plants section.

Rouge Valley Walk (Post Date : June 11, 2003)

For those in the area there is a guided nature walk of the Rouge Valley on Sunday June 29th at 130PM. Meet at Caper Valley Parking Lot east of Little Rouge River.

Web Site Updates (Post Date : June 10, 2003)

In order to better support 800 x 600 resolution screens the web site has been slightly reconfigured. Let us know if there are still issues.

Two new sections have been added, they are Related Web Site Links and Picture Slide Shows.

A condensed version of the Altona Forest Trail Map Guide and a document on Tree Barks have been added to the "Downloads" section. You can access that section directly from here.

Background music for the web site has also been added. It can be turned off or back on again using the control found near the upper right corner of the page.

A guided walk of the Altona Forest was conducted by Doug Lockrey of the Pickering Naturalist. It was a walk open to the public. Twenty two people attended. Click here to view a slide show of pictures from that walk.

An update on vandalism for 2003 in the Altona Forest has been added to the "Forest Crime" section. You can access that section directly from here.
